Anaerobic Digestion

Anaerobic digestion is a process in which organic material is broken down in an oxygen free environment such as a complete mix or plug flow digester, producing a gas that consists of methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (C02), and trace amounts of other gases.
This gas can be used to generate electric power using an engine or turbine. It can also be piped directly into a natural gas pipeline or used as fuel for boilers. Feedstock for digesters is typically manure but can also be supplemented with food waste. The solids that are removed from the digester have many uses including potting soil and bedding.
