LOCATION: Rockford, Illinois
EQUIPMENT: Four Caterpillar 3520C generator sets, each producing up to 1600 kW, with the option to add an additional engine as gas production increases. Maximum output of 6.4 MWh (8.0 MWh) — enough to power 5000 homes.
CONSTRUCTION: Ragnar Benson Construction Company, LLC a William Charles, Ltd. Company. Additional William Charles companies utilized in the construction were William Charles Construction (formerly Rockford Blacktop), William Charles Electric (formerly Rockford Electric Power), and Winnebago Landfill Company.

DETAILS: The design and permitting of the Winnebago Energy Center was completed in about 12 months, and the facility was constructed in six months. It is connected through a ComEd interconnection and sold on the PJM grid. This project was completed by William Charles Energy in collaboration with Endurant Energy, Integrys Energy, and Ragnar Benson. The engines are fed by two separate gas collection systems from adjacent landfill cells. In the future a third source may be added to increase the production of electrical generation.
